Glasses filled with Lime Vodka cocktails.

I’m really excited to share this Lime Vodka Cocktails recipe with you today!

I have been inspired to try more of my own infusions, so I decided to go with my gut and make a Wild Lime Leaf-infused Vodka for this drink. Fresh Kaffir Lime Leaves are just about the most delicious thing ever.

The smell of these fragrant leaves instantly transports me back to Thailand, which is as close to a vacation as I’m going to get right now. I use them all the time in my cooking (like in my Crispy Tilapia in Curry Sauce and Peanut Panang Beef Curry), so I thought a vodka infusion would be really fun.

Reasons to Love This Lime Vodka Drink

  • The vibrant zest of lime leaves adds a refreshing tang that elevates any gathering.
  • The cocktail pairs beautifully with a wide range of cuisines.
  • Cucumber slices contribute a cool, crisp finish, making it an extraordinarily refreshing summer cocktail.

Recipe Ingredients

Two glasses filled with cocktail drinks.
  • Wild Lime Leaves: These leaves add a bright, citrusy tang with a hint of floral notes.
  • Fresh Ginger Root: Minced ginger imparts a spicy, pungent kick.
  • Cucumber: Adds a fresh, crisp texture and a mild, refreshing taste that lightens the drink.

See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

Variations

  • Mint Substitution: Replace wild lime leaves with fresh mint leaves to maintain the cocktail’s refreshing zest while adding a cool, minty twist. Garnish with a mint sprig to enhance the visual appeal and aroma.
  • Sweetener Options: Use agave syrup, simple syrup, or honey in place of sugar. Agave syrup offers a mild, neutral flavor, while simple syrup brings a clean, consistent sweetness. Honey provides a natural, subtly rich flavor that can add a warm note to the cocktail.

How to Make Lime Vodka Cocktail

Step #1: Combine the lime leaves with the vodka in a mason jar or other tightly sealed container. Let infuse for at least one day, up to four days.

Step #2: Heat the ginger, sugar, and water in a small saucepan until boiling. Reduce to low and let simmer for five minutes. Let cool.

Step #3: Meanwhile, peel the cucumber so that no green peel remains (it should look almost white). Halve the cucumber lengthwise and use a spoon to scoop out the seeds. Slice each cucumber half lengthwise into long strips, then cut crosswise into fine dice. Make sure the cucumber pieces are big enough that they won’t get sucked up through a straw.

Step #4: For each drink, muddle 1 tbsp. cucumber in the bottom of a glass. Add 1.5 oz (one “shot”) of the infused vodka, followed by 1 oz. of the cooled ginger syrup. Add ice to the brim, then top with 3 oz. club soda. Garnish with a lime slice and additional wild lime leaves if desired.

Expert Tips

  • Fine Strain the Ginger Syrup: After simmering the ginger syrup, use a fine mesh strainer to remove all the ginger pieces. This creates a smooth syrup without any bits that could alter the drink’s texture.
  • Chill Your Ingredients: Chill the vodka, ginger syrup, and club soda before assembling the drink. Using chilled ingredients helps maintain a cold cocktail without diluting it too quickly with ice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an alternative way to prepare the Lime Vodka Cocktail?

Absolutely! An alternative method for preparing the Lime Vodka Cocktail involves using a cocktail shaker. Simply pour the infused vodka and ginger syrup into the shaker, add ice, and shake vigorously. Then stir in the muddled cucumber before straining the mixture into a chilled cocktail glass.

Can I make a non-alcoholic version of this cocktail?

Yes, you can make a non-alcoholic version by omitting the vodka and increasing the club soda or sparkling water. You can also add a splash of lime juice for extra flavor.

What type of glass should I use for serving?

This cocktail is best served in a highball or Collins glass to accommodate the ice and club soda.

What if I can’t find fresh lime leaves?

You can use fresh lime zest and fresh lime juice as substitutes for lime leaves. For this recipe, use the zest of 2 limes and the juice of 1 lime. This will provide a similar zesty and aromatic flavor to the cocktail.

Storage Info

  1. 5 stars
Bright citrus flavor and that citrus leaf scent gave it something extra. Not heavy or sugary, clean and refreshing.

  2. How refreshingly fabulous! Haven’t checked in in a while. Everything’s looking great over here! I’m still debating the crossover to another platform. Hmm.
