Oh my goodness!!! I have been looking for this recipe for YEARS!! I kept asking people if they knew what “peppernuts” were but everyone looked at me like I was “peppernuts”! I grew up in Kansas, and remember these from when I was a little girl. Over the years, I kept getting recipes for pfeffernusse cookies, but they were all soft baked cookies or they were coated in a glaze or rolled in powdered sugar. I remember these because sometimes they were so hard I had to suck on the for a moment before I could crunch them! (lol)

I’m going to be baking these a LOT this holiday season (and likely all year around since they’re one of my favorites!!). Thank you SO MUCH for posting this recipe!!

Delicious, crunchy cookies!! My husband remembers this taste from 60 years ago, (he is 67 now)when his babysitter made these at Christmas. Thank you for sharing!! Only 22 more cups to make.
