Recipe Ingredients

A tray with two Avocado Margaritas.
  • Avocados: Velvety and rich, avocados provide a creamy texture, adding a unique flavor to the classic margarita.
  • Lime Juice: Fresh lime juice offers a tangy and zesty taste, crucial for the margarita’s refreshing citrus notes.
  • Jalapeño: Adds a subtle heat, balancing the creaminess and enhancing the overall flavor complexity.

See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

Variations

  • Garnish Options: Consider adding a slice of lime, a sprinkle of Tajín, or a fresh cilantro sprig. These garnishes enhance the visual appeal and add bursts of flavor to your margarita.
  • Cointreau Alternative: For a variation, you can substitute Cointreau with Grand Marnier or another high-quality orange liqueur. This switch will add a slightly richer and more complex citrus flavor. Additionally, Triple Sec or a splash of freshly squeezed orange juice can be used for a lighter, more refreshing twist.
  • Syrup Substitution: For a slightly different sweetness take, you can substitute the agave nectar with honey or simple syrup.

How to Make Avocado Margarita

Step #1: Place the kosher salt on a shallow plate.

Step #2: Rub the rim of the glass with a cut lime. Do this for each of the four margarita glasses.

Step #3: One at a time, invert the glasses onto the shallow plate and wiggle back and forth to coat the rim evenly in salt.

Step #4: Place the avocados, lime juice, agave, Cointreau, jalapeño, and tequila into the pitcher of your blender. Top with ice (about 3 cups) and secure the lid.

Step #5: Insert the pitcher securely into the blender’s base.

Step #6: Blend the mixture by selecting the icy drinks/smoothies program.

Step #7: Divide the blended margaritas into the four prepared serving glasses.

Step #8: Garnish with lime wedges and serve.

Expert Tips

  • Perfect Avocados: Use ripe avocados for the creamiest texture. They should yield slightly to gentle pressure but not be overly soft.
  • Fresh Lime Juice: Freshly squeezed lime juice is crucial for vibrant flavor—avoid bottled lime juice.
  • Premium Spirits: Opt for a high-quality blanco tequila and orange liqueur (like Cointreau) to enhance the cocktail’s overall taste.
