Caramel Apple Sangria served in a mason jar with apple garnish and straw.

The start of fall is always a busy time for my family, filled with comparing schedules, requesting days off, and planning our traditional gatherings.

During apple season, we love buying fresh apples and experimenting in the kitchen. This sangria, with its caramel apple flavor, is one of our favorite ways to enjoy apple cider in a new and delicious drink.

Why I Love This Sangria

  • The sangria can be made ahead, making entertaining stress-free.
  • Whether it’s Thanksgiving dinner, a Halloween party, or a cozy night in, this sangria is sure to please.
  • The recipe is simple, with no complicated steps.

Recipe Ingredients

Mason jar filled with ice and Caramel Apple Sangria.

Dry White Wine – I like using a crisp wine like Chardonnay to balance the sweetness of the sangria.

Sweet White Wine – Riesling adds the right amount of sweetness with notes of honey and apricot.

Apples – I usually go with firm varieties for their crisp texture and natural sweetness.

Variations

Apple Varieties – I recommend using firm, crisp apples like Honeycrisp apples, Braeburn, Granny Smith apples, Fuji, Gala apples, Pink Lady, or McIntosh for this sangria. Feel free to use your favorite apples.

Sparkling Apple Cider – For a fizzy twist, use sparkling apple cider.

How to Make Caramel Apple Sangria

Step #1: Place the sliced apples in the bottom of a large pitcher. Pour the wine, cider, and vodka over the top and stir well to combine.

Step #2: Refrigerate overnight or until chilled.

Step #3: Serve poured over ice with an apple garnish.

Expert Tips

Chill the Ingredients Before Mixing – For a well-chilled sangria, refrigerate the wines, apple cider, and vodka beforehand.

Add a Cinnamon Stick – Tossing in a cinnamon stick during the marinating process will give the sangria a warm, spiced note.

FAQs

Can I use different types of wine in this sangria?

Yes, you can substitute other white wines like Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc for a lighter taste, or even use a sparkling wine for added fizz.

What other fruits can I add to this sangria?

In addition to apples, you can add pears, oranges, or cranberries for a festive touch and enhanced flavor.

Can I use store-bought caramel sauce instead of caramel vodka?

Yes, you can drizzle store-bought caramel sauce in the pitcher or on glass rims for added flavor, but it won’t provide the same alcohol content, so you may want to use the same amount of regular vodka in place of the caramel vodka.

Storage information

To store this sangria, keep it in the refrigerator in an airtight pitcher or container for up to three days. The longer it sits, the more the flavors will meld together, but it’s best enjoyed within the first two days for the freshest taste. Stir well before serving.

This recipe is not suitable for freezing, as the texture of the apples and the wine will be affected.
