Spring is in the air, the weather is warming up, and flowers are beginning to bloom! I’ve always associated the smell of roses with warm weather, so I decided to help the sunshine along by creating a beautiful rose-scented cocktail.

The rose essence comes from the use of rosewater, which you can find in most specialty grocery stores, or you can order rosewater online. It’s a common ingredient in Mediterranean cooking and is handy to keep around the house. You can even use it as a facial toner or to freshen your linens!

Reasons to Love This Raspberry Cocktail

  • Bursting with vibrant flavor, raspberries add a refreshing tang to cocktails.
  • Raspberries pair well with various spirits, from vodka to gin, creating versatile cocktails.

Recipe Ingredients

Two stemmed glasses filled with raspberry cocktail.
  • Fresh Raspberries: Bursting with juicy sweetness and a subtle tartness, they add a vibrant flavor.
  • Rosewater: Infuses a delicate floral aroma and flavor.
  • Raspberry-Rose Syrup: Combines the sweetness of raspberries with the floral notes of rosewater.

See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

Variations

  • Garnish Options: Enhance your Raspberry Rose Water Cocktail with these garnishes: skewer fresh raspberries on a cocktail pick. You can also sprinkle edible rose petals for floral elegance. Add a twist of lemon peel for citrus aroma, or a sprig of mint leaves for freshness. Consider rose petal or raspberry-infused ice cubes for visual appeal or use sugar on the rims of the glasses for a sweet touch.
  • Gin Variations: Experiment with different kind of gin to enhance your Rose Water Cocktail. A crisp London Dry Gin adds a traditional touch. On the other hand, a botanical-rich New Western Dry Gin introduces floral or citrus notes. Sloe Gin amplifies the raspberry flavor. For a milder, sweeter profile, use Old Tom Gin. Infuse this refreshing cocktail with rose, lavender, or cucumber to further enhance the drink’s floral and fruity character.

How to Make Raspberry Rose Water Cocktail

Step #1: Prepare the syrup by combining the raspberries, sugar, and rosewater in a 3.0-quart saucepan set over medium heat.

Step #2: Simmer for 8-10 minutes, breaking up the raspberries with a wooden spoon or spatula until the sugar has dissolved and the raspberries are very soft.

Step #3: Strain the liquid through a fine mesh strainer into a glass container to cool. Do not press the solids to extract additional liquid. Allow to cool to room temperature.

Step #5: Repeat with the remaining ingredients to make four servings. Garnish with a spear of raspberries and enjoy!

Expert Tip

To add a bit of fruity flavor and a bright magenta color to your Rose Water Cocktail, I recommend using fresh raspberries. I also chose gin as the liquor base in this cocktail because the botanicals really bring out the floral elements in the rosewater.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different sweetener instead of sugar in the raspberry-rose syrup?

Yes, you can substitute sugar with other sweeteners like honey, agave syrup, or maple syrup. Adjust the amount according to your taste preferences, keeping in mind that liquid sweeteners may alter the consistency slightly.

Can I make this cocktail without alcohol?

Yes! Simply omit the gin for a refreshing mocktail version of the Raspberry Rose Water Cocktail. Follow the same recipe instructions, excluding the gin, to enjoy the delightful flavors of raspberry and rose water in a non-alcoholic beverage.

Storage Info

You can store the prepared raspberry-rose syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. Freezing is not recommended as it may alter the texture and flavor.

To reheat, simply transfer the syrup to a saucepan and gently warm it over low heat, stirring occasionally until it reaches the desired temperature. Avoid boiling to prevent flavor loss. Allow it to cool slightly before using it in cocktails.
