Reasons to Love This Agua Fresca

  • Hydrating and light, without the extra calories of fruit juices.
  • A healthier alternative to sugary sodas and store-bought drinks.
  • You can easily make a large batch and store it in the fridge.

Recipe Ingredients

A pitcher of honeydew agua fresca with a bowl of fresh raspberries beside it.

Honeydew Melon – Pick a ripe melon for the best sweetness and juicy texture.

Lime Juice – Freshly squeezed lime juice adds a tangy, citrusy kick.

Baking Sugar – Also called super fine sugar, this sugar dissolves quickly without leaving any grainy texture.

For a full list of ingredients and amounts, see the recipe card below.

Variations

Garnish Ideas – Mix it up with fresh mint, lime slices, or even thin cucumber for a cool touch. Want more color? Toss in some blueberries or blackberries. If you’re feeling bold, a little chili powder on the rim adds a spicy kick!

Use Coconut Water – Swap regular water for coconut water to add a tropical twist and boost hydration.

How to Make Honeydew Agua Fresca with Raspberries

Step #1: Cut the melon in half, remove the seeds with a spoon, then cut the flesh from the peel and slice it into chunks. Place half of the melon in a large blender and process until liquefied. Pour the liquefied melon into a fine mesh sieve set over a large bowl.

Step #2: Use a spatula to press the melon into the sieve, allowing the juice to squeeze through into the bowl. Occasionally scrape the flesh off the sieve to allow more juice to transfer to the bowl. Repeat with the remaining melon.

Step #3: Transfer the melon juice to a large pitcher and add four cups of water.

Step #4: Combine lime juice and sugar in a small bowl, then stir until the sugar is dissolved. Pour the lime-sugar mixture into the pitcher and stir well. Serve over ice, garnished with raspberries.

Expert Tips

Blend Ice for a Slushie-Like Texture – Blend a few ice cubes and use in place of some of the water for a frosty, slushie-like texture.

Add a Pinch of Salt – A small pinch of salt in the lime-sugar mix enhances the sweetness and balances the flavors. It’s a subtle trick used in many fruit drinks.

Strain Twice for a Smoother Drink – If you want it extra smooth, strain the melon juice twice to remove all the pulp for a clean, refreshing sip.

FAQs

What other fruits can I use instead of melon for my Honeydew Agua Fresca with Raspberries recipe?

Feel free to get creative! You can swap in fruits like pineapple, berries, mango, or even guava. While melon is the go-to, all these fruits work really well.

Can I use another sweetener instead of sugar?

Definitely! Agave syrup, honey, or maple syrup are great swaps for sugar. If you’re going for low-calorie options, stevia or monk fruit work too. Just mix them with the lime juice as you would with sugar, and it’ll turn out great!

Storage Information

Store the Agua Fresca in an airtight container or pitcher in the fridge for up to 3 days. Stir well before serving as some separation may occur.

Freezing is not recommended as the texture and flavor may change, but if you want to freeze it, pour it into ice cube trays for a refreshing treat later.
